As-Built Survey FAQ

What is an as-built survey?

An as-built survey is a detailed survey that documents the exact dimensions, locations, and layout of a building or infrastructure after construction or installation is completed. It reflects the actual built condition versus the original design plans.

It’s crucial for verifying that construction matches design plans and regulatory requirements. It provides an accurate, permanent record of what was actually built, including hidden utilities.

As-Built Surveys are most commonly performed at the completion of a construction project. Sometimes, they are also done at various stages during construction to monitor progress and changes.

It includes the exact locations of buildings, foundations, utilities (water, sewer, electric), grading, and other site features. It highlights any deviations from the original design plans.

The survey is the field work and data collection process, capturing the actual conditions. As-Built Drawings are the resultant plans or schematics, updated to reflect the survey’s findings.
